Burdeos

Bordeaux (Gironde department) – located 500 km southwest of Paris, this port city in southwestern France (whose population is just over 200,000) has long been known as the capital of the wine industry, not just in France, but throughout the world (supporting a multi-billion-euro economy here). To emphasize that point, the major international wine fair, Vinexpo, is held here (www.vinexpo.com). Wine has been a part of the local culture since it started to be produced here in the 8th century. Nowadays, Bordeaux has over 116,000 hectares of vineyards, 57 appellations, and 10,000 wine-making châteaux – producing well over 900 million bottles of wine a year.
