Institut Lumière (25 rue du Premier Film, 69008 Lyon) – this museum celebrates and promotes the French film industry, which has thrived for decades (particularly during the post-war period of the 1950s & 1960s). The museum is named after French cinematographers Auguste and Louis Lumière – who reputedly made the first motion picture ever made (a black & white silent documentary) in 1895.
Along with this museum, the “Lumière 2014 Grand Lyon Film Festival” is held every October. At that time, Lyon attracts French, American and international film stars and directors, from filmmakers Pedro Almodovar and Quentin Tarantino, to actors such as Keanu Reeves and Lambert Wilson (“The Matrix” films), and many others.
