Champagne Region (northeast France) – this region is well-regarded worldwide for its sparkling wines. For those already visiting Paris, this area is just 90 minutes northeast of the French capital. All champagnes are made within a few kilometers of each other outside the regional towns of Reims and Epernay, near the Abbey of Saint-Pierre where the legendary 17th century Benedictine monk, Dom Pérignon, made his signature champagne. The commercially-known champagne label Dom Perignon (made & bottled by Moët & Chandon) is named in his honor.
